It’s officially summer. It actually happens to be two of my most favorite weeks of the entire summer; Wimbledon! In order to celebrate both of these events properly, I felt that some Pimm’s was in order. There is a good chance you’ve never heard of Pimm’s before as it is quintessentially British. It is pretty much the official drink of British ‘summer’ (if you can call it that there…) and also one of the official drinks of Wimbledon.
Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is a gin based liqueur. It’s both subtly fruity and spicy, but the taste isn’t overwhelming. Pimm’s is generally served over ice with chopped up fruit (strawberries, oranges, apples, cucumber and mint are tradition), British style lemonade, which is clear and carbonated, not like American lemonade. I have found you can easily substitute the lemonade with the sparkling “French” Lemonade (when did lemonade get so nationalistic?) from Trader Joe’s, ginger ale with some fresh lemon juice squeezed in, or if you are super desperate, 7-up.
